The available Ram 1500 integrated navigation system provides directions through the truck’s Uconnect touchscreen without requiring you to hold or operate your phone. It may be available on Ram 1500 Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, RHO and Tungsten models, depending on the model year, trim, equipment package and touchscreen installed.
Built-in navigation can be particularly useful when travelling between Kenora and surrounding Northwestern Ontario communities, where drivers may encounter long distances and inconsistent cellular coverage. For a broader explanation of the touchscreen, media and connectivity features, read our Ram 1500 Uconnect system guide.
Navigation availability, screen layouts, menu names and connected services vary by Ram 1500 model, trim, model year, equipment package and software version. Refer to your owner’s manual and confirm the equipment installed in your truck.
How to Enter a Destination
Step 1: Park in a Safe Location
Enter your destination before beginning your trip whenever possible. Some navigation functions may be limited while the truck is moving to reduce driver distraction.
Step 2: Open the Navigation Screen
Start the Ram 1500 and allow the Uconnect touchscreen to load. Select the navigation or map icon shown on the screen.
The exact icon position may vary depending on how the touchscreen has been configured.
Step 3: Select the Destination Search
Choose the option used to search for a destination. Depending on the system, you may be able to search by:
- Street address
- Business name
- City or community
- Postal code
- Category or point of interest
- A recently visited destination
- A saved favourite
Step 4: Enter the Location
Use the touchscreen keyboard to enter the address or place name. Review the suggested results carefully, especially when multiple streets or businesses have similar names.
Confirm that the selected destination is in the correct city and province before starting the route.
Step 5: Review the Suggested Route
The system may display one or more available routes. Review the estimated travel time, distance and road selection before continuing.
Choose the route that best matches your trip. A route that appears shorter may not always be the best choice during winter weather, road construction or poor driving conditions.
Step 6: Start Route Guidance
Select the option to begin navigation. The system will display upcoming turns and provide spoken directions through the vehicle’s audio system.
Keep your attention on the road and treat the navigation instructions as guidance. Always follow posted road signs, closures and traffic directions.
Step 7: End or Cancel the Route
When you no longer need directions, open the route options and select the command used to stop or cancel guidance. The wording and location of this control may differ between Uconnect systems.
How to Save Home, Work or Favourite Destinations
Step 1: Open the Navigation Menu
From the navigation screen, open the destination, saved places or favourites section.
Step 2: Choose a Location to Save
Search for the address you want to store or select it from your recent destinations.
Step 3: Save and Name the Location
Choose the option to save the destination. You may be able to identify it as Home, Work or another custom favourite.
Avoid saving your exact home address under an obvious name when privacy is a concern. A nearby intersection or public location can be used instead.
Step 4: Confirm the Saved Destination
Return to the saved locations screen and confirm that the new destination appears. You can now select it without entering the full address again.
How to Search for Fuel, Food and Other Stops
Step 1: Open the Point-of-Interest Search
From the navigation screen, select the search or point-of-interest option.
Step 2: Choose a Category
Select a category such as fuel, restaurants, parking, accommodations or other nearby services.
Step 3: Select the Search Area
Depending on the system, you may be able to search near your current location, close to your destination or along the active route.
Step 4: Add the Stop
Select the desired location and follow the prompts to navigate there. When a route is already active, the system may allow you to add the location as a stop rather than replacing your final destination.
Before You Start
- Confirm that the Ram 1500 is equipped with factory-integrated navigation.
- Enter the destination while parked whenever possible.
- Check that the correct city, province and street have been selected.
- Adjust the guidance volume before driving.
- Keep the touchscreen and surrounding controls clean and easy to see.
- Do not rely exclusively on navigation when travelling on seasonal, private or remote roads.
- Download or carry backup directions before travelling through remote areas of Northwestern Ontario where connected navigation services may be limited.
- Check current road and weather conditions before winter trips.
Benefits of the Ram 1500 Integrated Navigation System
Using the available integrated navigation system can provide several practical benefits:
- Directions displayed directly on the Uconnect touchscreen
- Spoken turn-by-turn guidance through the truck’s speakers
- Address and point-of-interest searches
- Saved Home, Work and favourite destinations
- Recent-destination history
- Route previews before beginning a trip
- Nearby fuel, food, parking and service searches
- Less need to handle a phone while driving
- Integration with other available vehicle displays and connected services
Some features may require an active connected-services plan or cellular data connection. Basic navigation availability and connected functions should be confirmed for the individual truck.
Troubleshooting Common Navigation Issues
- The navigation icon is missing: The truck may not be equipped with factory navigation, or the icon may be located on another screen. Check the installed Uconnect system and the vehicle’s equipment information.
- The system cannot find an address: Confirm the spelling, municipality and province. Try searching by business name, postal code or a nearby intersection.
- The map shows the wrong location: Move the truck to an open area away from covered parking, tall buildings or other obstructions and allow the system time to establish its position.
- The route uses an unsuitable road: Review available route settings and select a different route. Never continue onto a closed, unsafe, private or unmaintained road simply because it appears on the map.
- The map appears outdated: Navigation maps and Uconnect software may require an update. Update eligibility and the correct process depend on the system installed in the truck.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Ram 1500 have integrated navigation?
No. Integrated navigation is available only on certain Ram 1500 models, trims and equipment packages. A touchscreen may support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without including factory navigation. Check the window sticker, vehicle build information or navigation screen to confirm.
Can I use Ram 1500 navigation without my phone?
Factory-integrated navigation can provide route guidance without using your phone for the main map display. However, certain connected functions, searches, traffic information or map services may depend on an active service plan and available cellular coverage.
Can I use voice commands to enter a destination?
Some equipped Uconnect systems support navigation voice commands. The recognized phrases and available functions vary by system and software version. Use the voice-command prompts shown in the truck or consult the owner’s manual for supported commands.
Why can’t the navigation system find my destination?
The address may be new, entered incorrectly or listed under a different municipality. Confirm the postal code and province, or search for a nearby landmark, business or intersection.
Can I add a stop without cancelling my route?
Some Ram 1500 navigation systems allow a fuel station, restaurant or other point of interest to be added along an active route. Open the route or destination options and look for the available stop function.
Will Ram 1500 navigation work in remote areas around Kenora?
The built-in positioning system may continue displaying your location where phone service is weak, but connected searches, live information and other online functions may be unavailable without cellular coverage. Plan the route in advance and carry backup directions when travelling to remote locations.
